The first new album in four years from Australian diva Sarah McKenzie, who has also released on the prestigious 'Impulse!' label, is a collection of bossa nova classics performed with Peter Erskine and others! Sarah McKenzie's first new album in four years is a bossa nova work featuring such bossa nova classics as 'The Girl from Ipanema', 'Corcovado (Quiet Nights)', 'The Gentle Rain', and 'Wave'! During a visit to Rio de Janeiro in 2018, Sarah stayed at Ipanema Beach, sat at the bar in Veloso, where Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes wrote 'The Daughter of Ipanema,' and was in awe of the majesty of the beautiful Corcovado hills. She enjoyed jam sessions with local musicians late into the night, and was deeply moved by the warm and friendly character of the people and all the sights, sounds, smells, and vibrant colors of Rio de Janeiro, which led to the creation of this work. Sarah's cool and refreshing voice is pleasant to the ear even when she sings bossa nova, and this is an ambitious work by a group of skilled musicians including Peter Erskine.back to top
